Stubbs Educational Foundation & Music School #TBT 2012 and 2013

We are so thankful to our alumnae who continue to support the #finearts and our sisters Joy S. Stubbs (Gamma Iota, UF), Eugenia Battle (Alpha Upsilon, UAL), and our Brother of #Hermes Chuck Stubbs (TKE, FSU).

20 Years of #finearts in music for #Tallahassee

More wonderful news from Joy and Chuck:  "The couple presented the Stubbs’ Educational Foundation with funds to establish the Frank and Virginia Brown endowment in memory of Joy’s grandparents. The Stubbs' Educational Foundation is a non-profit organization in North Florida that provides scholarships to children for music instruction.  Chuck and Joy believe that the study of music enhances education as a whole and that the endowment is a lasting way to commemorate Frank and Virginia."
Here we are in the center, bottom photo! Jenn (Theta Lambda), Britain (Beta Eta),

MusicFest ... Benefiting Refuge House - 3rd Annual

It was a beautiful day at MusicFest benefiting our local DVA/SVA shelter and organization in Tallahassee! We hope lots of sisters enjoyed the day outside in Tallahassee at the event.

We are lucky the local paper, Tallahassee Democrat, is devoted to our communities and covers these types of events:

Update: Music festival serves as Refuge House's biggest fundraiser

Sounds of Hope, the music festival for the Refuge House, has raised more than $50,000 over the past two years, said Refuge House Executive Director Meg Baldwin.

"This is an event where the whole community comes out to support victims of domestic violence and sexual assault," she said. "We celebrate their he

roism and courage."

The third annual outdoor music festival started at noon and goes until 5 p.m., at Unity Eastside Church, 8551 Buck Lake Road.

Saxophone player Dayve Stewart, who already played his set earlier in the day, said he enjoys playing at events like Sounds of Hope.

“You just want the song and the tones to reverberate in peoples’ souls,” he said after his performance. “If it’s not about people then what is it about?”

Earlier story

MusicFest: Sounds of Hope is a major fundraising event for Refuge House, which assists those affected by domestic or sexual violence in eight counties t

hroughout the Big Bend area.

The third annual outdoor music festival is today, from noon to 5 p.m., at Unity Eastside Church, 8551 Buck Lake Road.

The afternoon of live music will feature local and national performers such as Dayve Stewart & the Vibe, Del Suggs, the Sarah Mac Band and the Boys' Choir of Tallahassee.

Tickets for the event are $10.

Our treasurer Jenn, spent the morning helping set up the Information table and the Merchandising Table (t-shirts, CDs and MusicFest Idol "special friend " bags).

Enjoy the photos of the pre-event.

They had three stages! This was one - please forgive the awful photography! :)

This is a shot of the food booth - lots of yummy spots in town donated food - THANK YOU!
The vendors brought lots of tempting items. Jenn's favorite booth was the jewelry from the fantastic Quincie Hamby had a booth: Everything was GORGEOUS!

Stubbs Educational Foundation Mardi Gras Gala

Last year members of ETE, the Tallahassee Alumnae chapter, attended the Stubbs Educational Foundation Mardi Gras Ball, supporting a local alumna, and celebrating the arts (yay for MacDowell Month). It is that time of year again... if you are interested in attending let us know.. so far Amy Z, her hubs, Chris, Jenny Sue, her hubs, Marc, Britain and her fiance, Chris, are all planning on attending... we'd love to have you join us.

The Stubbs' Educational Foundation's is a non-profit created by Martha and Ron Stubbs to provide music scholarships for K-12th grade students in North Florida and South Georgia. To date, the foundation has awarded approximately 555 scholarships valued at $441,027.58 and has established 26 endowments. At least 70% of the scholarships go to financially need-based students and the remaining to merit recipients. The Mardi Gras Ball is just one way the Foundation raises money to fund music scholarships. The evening features dinner, live music, dancing, and live and silent auctions. This year’s Mardi Gras Ball is on February 18 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m at the Tallahassee Antique Car Museum. Current Foundation President Chuck Stubbs welcomes all interested in the Mardi Gras Ball or the Foundation to contact (850) 893-8782.
