Hello fellow Alpha Chi Omega Alums!

As some of you may know, the Junior League of Tallahassee is having it's annual Whale of a Sale February 9th - 11th. As provisional members, we are responsible for gathering merchandise to contribute for the sale. As a grad student in Tallahassee, this is proving to be a little difficult for me. Whale of a Sale excepts gently used items ranging from kitchen appliances to sporting goods to baby items and pretty much everything in between. If you have anything you may be interested in donating, please let me know and I'd be happy to pick it up from you this coming weekend. Hope everyone is enjoying this gorgeous early February weather we are enjoying!

The Junior League's annual Jingle Jubilee will be held November 18-20th.


Many Alpha Chis around the nation contribute their time and talent to JL and our sisters in Tallahassee are no exception. When perusing this advertisement from the Tallahassee Magazine we saw Christine (Beta Eta)!

We will be attending Jingle Jubilee as an ETE activity on Nov 18th! Can't wait for the fun!

Youth still held the advantage in the women's competition though, as Anna Busby [Leon '08] edged out Thomasville master Mary Anne Grayson for the win, 21:03 to 21:09. Nearly 500 runners completed the 15 March 2010 run through the streets of Tallahassee's Killearn Estates."
Additionally, Anna won the UF Panhellenic 5K this past spring which benefited Peaceful Paths (the DV shelter in Gainesville).

Our Mission: Supporting Sisters ("SS")

One of our missions as an Alpha Chi Omega alumnae chapter is to support sisters who are active in the community. So many Alpha Chis are generous with their time and talents! It is wonderful to see them use the skills they developed and honed as collegiate officers, alumnae volunteers, and community members to advance a variety of causes in the Tallahassee/Thomasville community.

A few times a month, we'll spotlight an event or organization and share a little about the Alpha Chi sister(s) involved. We'll tag these events to make them easy to track, using "Supporting Sisters" and/or "SS" in the title of the post and in the Labels.

In addition to highlighting sisters who organize fundraisers, perform in and promote fine arts activities, and assist with philanthropic events, members of Epsilon Tau Epsilon also attend their events as a group, organize sponsorships, volunteer behind the scenes and contribute as a group.

Among the sisters and groups we have supported:

• Junior League of Tallahassee 
• Tallahassee Ballet
• Tallahassee Symphony Society
• Stubbs Educational Foundation (a local group that provides youth music scholarships)
• Leadership Tallahassee 
• South Georgia Ballet 
• Springtime Tallahassee
• Big Bend March for Babies
• Christmas Connection (a local effort to raise funds and donations for families in need)
• and two local groups whose work benefits domestic violence survivors: Children’s Home Society and Refuge House.

We look forward to adding to this list in the coming months and hope you'll stay tuned to learn more!

Monday March 1^st is a double holiday for Alpha Chi Omega – both International Badge Day (celebrated by all 26 National Panhellenic Conference member groups – wear your lyre pin with pride today) and Hera Day, Alpha Chi Omega’s national day of service to others. If you are looking for a service project today, please consider helping out Lauren Aukeman (Beta Eta, FSU) – she chairs Operation Prom Dress for Junior League Tallahassee this year!

 

Hi Friends and Colleagues!   Do you remember how great your prom was?  Remember, how fun it was to dress up and take lots of fun pictures? It may be one of my favorite memories from high school.    Unfortunately, many young girls in our community won't get that chance because funds will prevent them for going. But the Junior League of Tallahassee is doing something about it, and I am privileged to chair this fantastic event. .   The Junior League of Tallahassee (JLT) is collecting formal dresses, shoes and accessories for its annual event, Operation Prom Dress. This one-day shopping event is for students of Gretchen Everhart School for Exceptional Students and all public high school students in the Big Bend region that may not be able to afford a prom dress. Operation Prom Dress is scheduled for Sunday, March 21 from 1 – 4 p.m. at the Double Tree Hotel in downtown Tallahassee . Girls will have the opportunity to visit this make-shift boutique -- complete with dressing rooms -- and select a formal outfit, as well as try on shoes and accessories to complete their prom look.

I know each of you probably has a bridesmaid dress or prom dress you'll never wear again.  Please consider donating it and/or formal shoes or accessories to the JLT’s Operation Prom Dress. Contact me, and I'll coordinate the pick up of these items.  If you don't have dresses, please consider forwarding this email to a friend or colleague, or posting on a bulletin board at work with my contact information.
